Barry L. Stein, MD

Dr. Barry L. Stein did his medical school and general surgery training at McGill University and then did a GI fellowship training in endoscopy with an emphasis on colonoscopy at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and the Royal Victoria Hospital. Afterwards he spent 2 years at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Boston Massachusetts subspecializing in colon and rectal surgery. Upon completing his American specializing he returned to Montreal and was an attending colon and rectal surgeon at the Jewish General Hospital for 10 years and was director of the anorectal physiology laboratory during that time. He then moved to the McGill University Health Center to create and become director of the Center for Colon and Rectal Surgery where he has practiced for the past 19 years. Dr. Stein is an Assistant Professor of Surgery and Oncology at McGill University.He has been awarded numerous McGill teaching awards and was the associate program director for General Surgery at McGill University for many years. He has a very large academic practice with a particular interest in colon and rectal cancer prevention and laparoscopic colon and rectal cancer surgery. He was also a founding partner and medical director of a large medical clinic specializing in gastrointestinal diseases and colonoscopy.
